Exploration work on block Arenal began with state oil company Enap's acquisition of 940 square kilometers 3D seismic during 2008. Several exploration and development opportunities were identified based on seismic data. The project entails drilling wells Chañarcillo Sur PK B, Chañarcillo Sur PK C and Las Vegas PK A on the acreage. Enap's plans for 2015 include the fracking of 14 wells at Arenal and Intracampos and the drilling of 44 wells using the Pad Drilling (multiwell) technique. By 2017 the company expects to produce enough gas to supply the entire Magallanes region.
