Block 55 contains the productive Armadillo field, which began production in 1997 and was closed in 1999. At the time of closure, the field was producing 409b/d. In 2012, Ecuador's hydrocarbons ministry assigned the now marginal field to Petroamazonas to develop it. The company then proceeded to obtain an environmental license which was finally awarded on January 30, 2014. After this, Petroamazonas began a workover of well Armadillo 1, which allowed production to reach 330b/d. More recently, a 15-year agreement was signed between Petroamazonas and Ecuaservoil, a venture between Belorusneft and Edinpetrol, to optimize production in the field and employ enhanced oil recovery techniques.
