The Kasane Project of Sunbird Energy Ltd is located in northern Botswana, south of the town of Kasane in the Kalahari Karoo Basin and includes eight permits covering 4,162km2. As of February 2016, the operator of Kasane, Sunbird Energy, was awaiting renewal for the Kasane permits.
.The project is located approximately 100km south west of the Wankie coalfield in Zimbabwe, where coal is mined from a 12m thick seam of relative high quality. Best Estimate GIP of 1.81 Tcf, with a High Estimate of 9.75 Tcf. In early 2012, Sunbird undertook a desktop review of existing geological and geophysical data, and reinterpreted an aeromagnetic survey ahead of a proposed 2-well drilling programme to delineate the Kasane project area.
