Statoil ASA has acquired a 12% working interest in the Block 6 license, offshore Tanzania, from operator Petrobras Tanzania. Block 6 covers 2,130 square miles in the Mafia basin, offshore Tanzania. It is located approximately 105 miles north of Statoil\'s Block 2, where the company made three high-impact gas discoveries in 2012 and earlier in 2013. After the farm-in completion Petrobras Tanzania will remain operator with a 38% interest, while the remaining 50% will be held by Shell Deepwater Tanzania.
