In October 2011, DNO signed the prospecting permit for the Fkirine permit license, located onshore in central Tunisia. The permit was signed with the Tunisian authorities (ETAP), and DNO has a 50% share and will carry ETAP in the exploration phase. DNO has committed to invest US$2.5 million in the license covering a two-year work programme. The permit covers an area of over 2,000 square kilometres with a two-year commitment.
The exploration team has now moved into an operative geological/exploration phase, a phase that includes the acquisition of the minimum 200 kilometres of 2-D seismic as well as re-processing of minimum 300 kilometres of existing seismic data. Activities planned in 2012 include geological fieldwork, a surface geochemical survey and 2-D seismic acquisition, processing and interpretation. There are several onshore discoveries, and the Fkirine Permit is located close to existing infrastructure. ETAP has the option to participate within a 50% limit in the event of a discovery.
