Swala Oil and Gas Ltd through its subsidiary, Swala Oil and Gas (Tanzania) Limited, was awarded a 50% equity interest in the Kilosa-Kilombero Licence in Central Tanzania on the 20th February 2012. The license covers an area of 17,675km2 gross gross. The joint venture committed to carry out a certain work programme over a four-year exploration phase. In the first year, the partnership committed to reprocess and reinterpret historical data; to carry out field trips; and to carry out a 6,000km airborne gravity-magnetic survey. This work was completed in October 2012, five months ahead of schedule. The airborne survey eventually covered more than 14,000km of data through efficient use of the gravity and separate magnetic survey.
The results of this work confirm the presence of three basins, each of about 2,000 sq km in area. The northern 2 basins at Kilosa and Kidatu probably contain up to 6,000 or 7,000m of sediment. Most of the sediment is likely to be of Karoo age but there is potential for up to 2,000m of Neogene fill. The southern Kilombero basin potentially has a lesser fill of 2,000 to 3,000m but is likely to contain only Neogene sediments; it also exhibited anomalous stressed vegetation. The geometry of the basin fill will be identified after the seismic acquisition in 2013.
Kito Prospect
The Kito Prospect is a Miocene (Neogene) age bounded fault block target analogous to the highly successful prospects drilled in the Lokichar Basin in Kenya and around Lake Albert in Uganda. A discovery at Kito would open up several follow up targets within the Kilosa-Kilombero Licence.
