Project Profile
Location: South Atlantic off the coast of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina
Production: 1,000 m3 a day of oil and 2.4 million m3 a day of natural gas
Start-up Year: 1994
The Magallanes field is located in South Atlantic off the coast of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The field began production in 1994. It comprises five blocks - Isla Norte, Campanario, Flamenco, San Sebastian and Marazzi-Lago Mercedes.
In 2008, Enap had recorded a historic accumulated production of natural gas of over 7,000 million m3 in the Magallanes Area. This record occurred just a few days after the full recommencement of production at the AM-1 platform on 11 July 2008, and one day before platform AM-5 resumed production, on 18 July 2008. The Union Transitoria de Empresas (UTE) Magallanes had invested around US$70 million in the preparation of facilities and pipelines linking the offshore platforms to the Magallanes Reception Battery (BRM), facing the eastern entrance to the Strait of Magellan.
In June 2016, Enap signed a contract with ConocoPhillips (COP) to jointly explore and exploit oil and gas deposits in the Magallanes region. Under the deal, ENAP retained a 51% stake in the project. In July 2016, the Sea Trucks Group secured the contract by Enap Sipetrol Argentina, for a pipelay construction project for the PIAM project in the Magallanes Field. The scope work covered engineering, project management and installation of three pipelines of various sizes ranging from 6in to 14in in diameter, with a shore approach and the installation of tie-in spools and risers. It also includes abandonment of two existing lines and recovery of flexibles. The water depths in the area are around 70m.
