Boqueron field is located in the southeastern department of Santa Cruz in Bolivia. In June 2015, YPFB and Repsol made the largest oil discovery in 23 years in the field. A joint venture of YPFB and Repsol, had made the find on the Boqueron field after drilling the Boqueron 4-D well to a total depth of 3,237 metres. Initial tests showed a flow rate of 700 barrels per day of oil. This means the discovery will produce an estimated 6,500 barrels of oil in 2019, equivalent to more than 120% of the current production of crude oil in the country. The partners would invest about US$200 million to develop the field, including by drilling up to 25 new wells in the first quarter of 2016. The output from Boqueron will double the country’s current oil production. The recoverable resources of Boqueron were estimated at 27.6 million barrels. The oil was easy to access, with the first well costing US$6 million for the drilling. The quality of the crude was light, at 40-42 degrees API.
