Block AM-T-84 is an onshore block located in the Amazon Basin. Petrobras is the operator of the concession (60%), in partnership with Petrogal Brasil (40%). On April 2015, Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras) made a discovery of a new oil and gas accumulation in the block. The discovery was made while drilling well 1-BRSA-1293-AM (ANP nomenclature), informally known as Jusante do Anebá. Well drilling reached the total depth of 2,040 metres. Preliminary well tests have confirmed the presence of light oil (API 47°) and gas in arenaceous reservoirs, extending from 1,350 metres to 1,900 metres deep. The consortium will proceed with activities to evaluate the oil and gas bearing reservoirs through a cased-hole drill-stem test.
Petrobras’ must drill another well in the AM-T-84 block prior to the expiry of its licence in May 2017 to avoid surrendering the acreage to the Brazilian state under the terms of its agreement. Petrobras asked for permission to extend the first phase by one year in August 2016, but the government refused its request, leaving Petrobras with a choice between starting the second one-year exploration phase, or exiting the block altogether.
