Project Profile

Location: Vaca Muerta formation, Neuquen Province, Argentina
Capacity: 50,000 cubic metres
Area: 140 square kilometres
Start-up Year: -

The provincial oil and gas operator of Argentina, Gas y Petroleo (GyP), is seeking partners for exploration on two new blocks in the hydrocarbon-rich Vaca Muerta formation. The blocks – Parva Negra Oeste and Loma Ancha – will be licensed with a reduced carry requirement, in an apparent bow to the federal government\'s negotiations to minimise the presence of provincial operators in investments. These two sites, both approximately 140 square kilometres in size, have been subdivided from the Parva Negra block, reverted to the province from Brazilian state operator Petrobras earlier in the year. Of the two, Parva Negra Oeste is likely to receive more attention. It lies adjacent to Parva Negra Este, where US supermajor ExxonMobil and Petrobras head up a four-well shale gas exploration programme.

Operators:

Gas y Petroleo (GyP): Operator with 100% interest
