Project Profile
Location: northwest of the Suroriente Block, Putumayo Basin, Colombia
Area: approx. 300 sq km
Start-up Year: -
The Alea 1848A Block has a total area of approximately 75,000 acres (300sq km) and is located northwest of the producing Suroriente Block. The block was awarded pursuant to the ANH 2007 Licensing Round and, as such, does not carry any additional royalty to the ANH. Phases 1 and 2 of the contract were satisfied by the acquisition of 110 km of 2D and 73 km2 of 3D seismic and the drilling of the Charapa-1 well in 2011. Charapa-1 tested oil at uneconomic rates and no further drilling on the Miranchur-Charapa structural trend is anticipated.
The block has four untested structural closures on a separate trend mapped on 3D and 2D seismic data and two large untested stratigraphic leads that are similar to the Villeta \'N\' sand found at Cohembi. An application to combine Phases 3 and 4 of the contract has been submitted to the Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH), in order to allow the acquisition of new seismic data over the existing structural and stratigraphic leads. An exploration well was drilled in late 2013. The block has three legacy exploration wells which were drilled between 1964 and 1988. Each of the wells encountered multiple reservoir intervals in the Villeta Formation and all three wells had hydrocarbon shows. The Miranchur-1 well in the central area of the block tested oil at a rate of 67 bpd.
