The CPO-9 block is owned by Ecopetol (55%) and Talisman (45%). Exploration in the block started in 2012 with the perforation of the Akacías-1, confirming the presence of crude oil. Results showed a crude oil production of 9.3° API, with an average flow of 1,280 b/d. The development of the block includes the perforation of seven wells, three of them are already drilled. Talisman is waiting the environmental approval to obtain the exploration licence. The company also informed that hopes to conclude the wells evaluation in 2014. In Block CPO-9, Talisman will be drilling seven appraisal wells in 2013 offsetting Akacias-1 and plans to put them on production as an early pilot development (EPD). Talisman will also be testing two down-dip wells drilled in 2011 to determine the aerial extent of the oil reservoir.
Eight successful appraisal wells have been drilled in 2013 in the Akacias field of block CPO-9, with one additional well currently drilling. Current production of 7-9 API oil from three wells on long-term test is 5,300 bopd, which will ramp up as the remaining wells are put on long-term test. To date, 1.5 million barrels of oil have been produced from the Akacias-1 discovery well, which commenced long-term test in May 2011 with average production in excess of 2,000 bopd. Transportation of the oil to market is occurring via the capacity the two companies have in the San Fernando and Ocensa pipeline systems. The original oil in place mapped with the currently producing wells is 1.3 billion barrels. Assuming a 10% recovery factor, a 2C contingent resource of 130 million barrels of oil is indicated. Structurally deeper wells drilled but yet to be placed on long-term test indicate greater oil in place; recoverability is yet to be determined.
