YPF has signed a final agreement with the Argentine unit of The Dow Chemical Company to explore shale gas reserves in El Orejano, Neuquen basin in Argentina. The 41km2 El Orejano block is part of the Vaca Muerta shale gas deposit in Argentina\'s Neuquén province.

Dow Argentina plans to invest US$120 million, while YPF will contribute US$68 million to the joint venture. YPF is the area operator and initially will develop 16 gas wells for the shale gas extraction. Both sides estimate extracting 3 million cubic metres per day during peak periods.
