The Cortadera block covers an area of approximately 124,000 gross acres (49,600 net acres) and is situated along the western thrust belt of the Neuquén basin in the middle portion of the province of Neuquén, approximately 700 miles south and west of Buenos Aires. The key shale play at Cortadera is the Vaca Muerta shale within the gas window and is 500+ meters in thickness. Stacked on top of the Vaca Muerta is a thick Quintuco zone (+500m thick) which is a very prolific zone of interest in many areas within the Neuquen basin and is sourced from the Vaca Muerta. Cortadera also has multiple other zones of interest across the block including the Mulichinco (+200m thick) and Agrio formations. Madalena and its partners plan to continue operations on the block in 2013 and beyond.
