Project Profile
Value: R$855,000 (US$272,862) - Signature Bonus paid 2012.
Location: Offshore region of Jequitinhonha Basin
Area: 742km2 in shallow water
Water Depth: 35m
Launch: Relinquished 2015
In 2002, Queiroz Galvo Explorao & Produo acquired one block (Block BM-J-2) located in offshore region of Jequitinhonha Basin. 3D seismic survey in this region has revealed horsts structures trending NE-SW which are focus to hydrocarbon migration, compatible with basement structural framework beyond transcurrent faults NW-SE direction. 2D Seismic survey has been carried out over a 1,020km area. QGEP is using the P-VI jackup rig rented from oil and gas major Petrobras.
In December 2015, QGEP announced it would relinquish Block BM-J-2 to Brazilian regulator Agencia Nacional do Petroleo (ANP) after fulfilling its commitments. Drilling conducted in 2013 had identified potential pay zones in pre-salt sections, but subsequent technical and economic analyses showed low-quality reservoirs with sub-commercial volumes, compounded by environmental challenges.
