Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Location: Gran Chaco region of Tarija, Bolivia
Production: 2,030 tons/day of ethane, 2,037 tons/day of LPG, 1,054 barrels/day of Isopentane and 2,087 barrels/day of natural gasoline
Capacity: 27,700,000 m3/day of natural gas
Start-up Year: 2014
The plant’s purpose is to separate the liquid products from the natural gas, with the liquids being mainly destined for export, while LPG being used to cover the deficit for internal demand. This project is part of YPFB’s 2009-2015 investment plan. It will process 27,700,000 m3/day of natural gas to produce 2,030 tons/day of ethane, 2,037 tons/day of LPG, 1,054 barrels/day of Isopentane and 2,087 barrels/day of natural gasoline. The plant will consist of cryogenic dehydration, recompression, fractionation and utilities units, which will be on-line in 2014. The Gran Chaco natural gas liquids separation plant is located in the Gran Chaco region of Tarija and will boast a maximum processing capacity of 30Mm3/d to produce LPG and gasoline, much of to be exported to Argentina and used to feed the GTL plant.

ABB has won an order worth US$8.2 million from Initec (Tecnicas Reunidas Group) to deliver in June 2013 the electric equipment for a new natural gas processing plant in Gran Chaco, Bolivia. The order was booked in the fourth quarter 2012. The new plant owned by Yacimientos Petroliferos Fiscales Bolivianos (YPFB), will process up to 27.7 million standard cubic metres of natural gas daily. YPFB has entrusted the construction of the plant to Initec - a Tecnicas Reunidas Group company. The electrical balance of plant (eBoP) consists of three e-houses including the air conditioning system, fire detection equipment, building infrastructures, and lighting system. Each e-house will contain all necessary electrical equipment for the successful operation of the plant, like medium and low voltage switchgear, transformers, the motors control center, and the electrical control system.
