Project Profile
Location: Western region of the Neuquen Basin, Argentina
Area: 163,800 acres
Start-up Year:
Los Toldos blocks are four blocks located in the western region of the Neuquen Basin, in Argentina and are considered to be prospective for shale oil and gas in the Vaca Muerta formation. The blocks cover 163,800 acres of land. In August 2011, Americas Petrogas (API) made a farmout deal with ExxonMobil on the Los Toldos blocks, with the primary focus being the Vaca Muerta Shale with other formations, notably the Agrio, Troncoso, Mulichinco, Quintuco and Tordillo.
The Los Toldos Este well (Los Toldos 2 block) reached TD at 3260 metres and penetrated 343 metres (1,125 feet) of Vaca Muerta shale. As of May 2012, all vertical and sidewall cores, cuttings, and well logs were being analyzed in geochemical laboratories to determine favorable zones for testing. API has plans for up to 10 shale wells to test unconventional targets in 2012-13. The blocks involved include continuation of drilling in Los Toldos (with ExxonMobil).
