La Mona Block is located in the northern section of the Plato Sub-Basin, which is part of the Lower Magdalena Basin, in northern Colombia and covers an area of 109,954 net acres. Azabache signed an Exploration and Production Contract (E&P) with the Colombian Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) on June 29th 2010. After acquiring 50 Km of 2D seismic in the previous exploration contract, Azabache was able to identify a structural trap and a bright spot, which increase the block potential. The approval of the study of environmental impact in pending (EIA, “Estudio de Impacto Ambiental”) in order to spud the Patacones-1 well. The main potential reservoir is the Cienaga de Oro Formation and the secondary reservoirs are Porquero Fm, and El Dificil Limestones, all from the Cenozoic Era.
