The onshore Pedernales Field is located on the northern margin of the Orinoco Delta in Venezuela. The surrounding environment is a combination of tidal channels and mangrove, with water depth between 3m and 10m. The installation comprises floating and fixed platforms with 26 active wells. It currently produces 5,000 bopd. Neighbouring communities of indigenous Warao people now benefit from refrigeration and telecommunications made possible by electricity generated at the Pedernales Field. On the other hand, the onshore Ambrosio Field is located in Lake Maracaibo in Northern Venezuela and produces 3,000 boepd. Perenco holds a 100% interest in the public-private partnership, Petrowarao which operates the Pedernales and Ambrosio fields. Perenco had paid US$55million for the license to develop and exploit Venezuela\'s Pedernales heavy crude oil field in Delta Amacuro state from BP Amoco. British Petroleum (BP) had acquired the rights to operate the field in 1994 through an association contract with PDVSA.
