The project will see the construction of an LNG receiving terminal with a capacity of 5 billion cubic metres per year. The project will also see the construction of a new port to accommodate LNG tankers and gas pipeline infrastructure. The scheme includes plans to double the facility’s capacity by 2020. The Moroccan government will finance the project through local and international investors. There are three potential locations for the land-based terminal: Casablanca and Jorf Lasfar on the Atlantic, and the port of Nador on the Mediterranean cost. The project, after completion, aims to help the kingdom boost the share of gas in its energy mix to 20% from 3%.
