Project Profile
Location: Southern Santos Basin offshore Brazil
Water Depth: 200 metres
Exploration start-up: 2012
The Sabia prospect is situated in the BM-S-72 block in the southern Santos Basin offshore Brazil in a water depth of approximately 200 metres. Panoro Energy holds a 15% ownership in the block. The partners are Vanco (Operator, 70%) and Brasoil Round 9 Exploracáo Petrolifera Ltda (15%).The well is being drilled by the GSF Arctic I (mid-water semisub) and will be vertically drilled with a target depth of 4,486 metres. The primary reservoir target for this well is post-salt sandstones of the Itajai-Acu formation, expected to be encountered at around 3,700 metres below mean sea level. The prospect is also targeting a secondary sandstone in the Ilha Bela member of the Jureia formation. Drilling on Sabia did not reach the proposed target depth. The decision was made to stop drilling at 13,779 feet. Based on current well data, the discovered volumes are at the low end of the pre-drill range estimate. While the well encountered an active petroleum system, the commerciality of the discovery cannot be firmly made at this time.
