Project Profile

Value: Undisclosed
Location: From Lula and Sapinhoa fields to an onshore terminal in the city of Marica in Rio de Janeiro and later to the Comperj petrochemicals plant
Length: 255 km, 24-inch pipeline
Start-up Year: Q2 2018
Capacity : 6.57 bcm.

The 290-kilometre pipeline will able to transport 18 million cubic metres per day of natural gas and was originally expected to be operational by early 2016. In 2015, however, Petrobras said the Route 3 pipeline was still in the planning stage and would not be ready until the second quarter of 2018.

The “Route 3” pipeline will carry natural gas from Santos basin fields to the Comperj refinery being built north of Rio de Janeiro, via an onshore terminal at Marica.

Reports indicated Italy’s Saipem was best placed to win the development contract with a lowest bid of US$1.45 billion, however, Petrobras reportedly decided to cancel the auction instead. Petrobras then purportedly simplified the project by splitting the tenders for deep-water and shallow-water sections of the pipeline.
