GasAtacama has decided to construct the first FSRU of Chile. The project is scheduled to be delivered during the fourth quarter of 2015 and will be moored about 1.6 kilometres offshore in the Bay of Mejillones in a water depth of 50 metres. It will have the capacity to store about six million cubic metres of liquefied natural gas and deliver about 180 million cubic feet per day of regasified LNG. The gas will be delivered to shore via GasAtacama’s own subsea pipeline and be primarily used to supply the 780 megawatt Central Termica Atacama thermal power plant. The charter was still subject to certain contractual conditions related to GasAtacama achieving a threshold of new power sales agreements prior to 31 December. London-based Golar LNG has been awarded the contract for Chile’s first floating storage and regasification unit. Golar had clinched the award to supply a FSRU to Chilean conglomerate GasAtacama for an initial 15 to 20 year period. The contract is expected to generate an average of $48 million per annum under a 15 year charter or US$47 million per annum if GasAtacama elects to take the 20 year option. The contract also carries three five-year extension options, representing a potential of 15 additional years of commitments.
