Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Location: 80 kilometres offshore the eastern coast of Trinidad and Tobago
Reserves: 16.2 MMcf/d (.46 MMcm/d) of natural gas
Water Depth: 427 feet (130 metres)
Discovered in December 1998, the Starfish gas field is located in the ECMA on blocks E and 5(a), 7.5 miles (12 kilometres) northwest of the Dolphin field. Drilled in 427 feet (130 metres) of water, the Starfish-1X exploration well encountered 501 feet (153 metres) of net gas pay in four zones. The well tested at an intentionally constrained rate of 16.2 MMcf/d (.46 MMcm/d) of natural gas. Due to its close proximity to the existing Dolphin infrastructure, the Starfish field was initially intended to be developed via a subsea tie-back. When the Dolphin Deep gas field begins to decline, the Starfish field will be developed to continue its contracts to Atlantic LNG’s Train 3 and 4.
NG player BG Group has delivered first gas from its Starfish field in December 2014 with the first well in the programme, allowing a reliable flow of gas to domestic markets and to the Atlantic LNG export facility. However, during 2015, Starfish reduced BG\'s 2P reserves in Trinidad and Tobago because production could only be sustained from a single development well. BG Group was subsequently bought by Royal Dutch Shell in 2016.
