Project Profile
Location: south-east of North Sudan, Rawat Basin, Sudan
Reserves: 94.7 million barrels of recoverable oil
Area: 25,529 sq. km
Water depth: 1,500 metres
Start-up year: 2013
Block 26 D/E is located in the North Sudan in the borders with the Southern Sudan, in the Rawat Basin. Exploration till now has been based on known information consisting of geophysical and geological data including 2-D (6,071 line km) 3-D (430 sq. km) seismic extending over the oil discovery structure, plus three discovery wells in three separate fields. The 3 new oil fields in Block 26 D/E are approximately 1,500 metres in depth.
The Rawat Basin is an easily accessible area. A Central Processing Facility (CPF) for Block 26 D/E is located 60 km away. It is also an entry point for the main export oil pipeline to Port Sudan. The basin is part of an elongated White Nile Rift System. It lies between two major basement structural highs. It corresponds to the northern extension of the Melut Basin. The sedimentary environment is Fluvio-deltaic lacustrine and is highly comparable with the Malut Basin. Rock evaluation data indicate the presence of excellent oil prone lacustrine source rock (Type 1 Kerogen). Reservoir rock is sandstone with shales, with excellent reservoir parameters
