The Buzios field, previously referred to as the Franco area, is located around 200 kilometres off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in waters ranging from 1600 to 2100 metres deep.
The well, called 3-BRSA-944A-RJS (3-RJS-688A in the nomenclature of Petrobras), informally known as Franco NW, is located in water depth of 1860 metres, about 188 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro and 7.7 km northwest of the discovery well 2-ANP-1-RJS (Franco). The discovery was confirmed by sampling of good quality oil (28 º API) obtained in the test cable. The samples were collected from 5,460 metres in reservoir thickness of carbonate rocks similar to those recorded in the discovery well.
