The Barra field is located in the ultra-deep Sergipe-Alagoas basin waters in the BM-Seal-11 concession. Petrobras operates the concession, holding a 60% interest; IBV-Brasil holds the remaining 40%. In October 2010, a discovery was made in well 1-SES-158, which tested deposits in an accumulation developed in an area measuring about 17,297 acres (70 square kilometres). Petrobras established excellent porosity conditions in the reservoirs located in depths between 16,568 and 17,717 feet (5,050 and 5,400 metres). The oil samples indicate excellent quality, with API of around 45 degrees.
