Project Profile
Value: Undisclosed
Area: Approximately 90,000 acres
Location: Southeastern area of the Putumayo Basin, near the town of Puerto Asis
Start-up Year: March 2013
Suroco holds a 15.8% non-operating working interest in the Suroriente Block in the Putumayo Basin. The Suroriente Block covers approximately 90,000 acres and is located in the southeastern area of the Putumayo Basin, near the town of Puerto Asis. Terms for the Suroriente Block are governed by an incremental production contract effective through 2023 between Ecopetrol and the Consorcio Colombia Energy (CCE). The Corporation holds its participation in CCE via a wholly owned subsidiary.
The Suroriente Block produces light and medium gravity oil from two oilfields (the Pinuna-Quillacinga field and the Cohembi field) with oil gravity averaging 26 degrees API. The production is transported by truck to the nearby Orito facilities and thence by the OTA (Trans Andean) pipeline. Oil is exported via the Tumaco terminal on the Pacific coast of Colombia. Producing wells in the Pinuna-Quillacinga field have multiple oil-bearing reservoir zones, with the production derived from the Villeta ‘U\' and ‘T\' sands and an average oil gravity of 29 degrees API. The Piñuña-5 well, drilled in late 2009, discovered a new thick, productive oil sand in the Villeta U Inferior formation which supports further development northward in the Piñuña field.
The Cohembi field produces from a single well in the Villeta ‘N\' sand with average oil gravity of 20 degrees API. As of July 2010, the Cohembi-1 well has produced 2.25 million barrels of oil over six years with no significant water production. July 2010 also saw the well producing at a peak historical rate of over 2000 barrels oil per day due to the recent installation of a high volume electric submersible pump. Development drilling planned for late 2010 or 2011 will be an important step in assessing the full potential of this large oil pool. The productive reservoirs in the Suroriente Block are frequently associated with strong aquifers which facilitate high oil recovery factors in developed pools.
An active appraisal and development drilling program is underway to fully develop these multiple opportunities in the Pinuna-Quillacinga and Cohembi fields. Additional surface oil storage and handling facilities are being constructed to handle the growing oil production. In addition to field appraisal and development the northern areas of the Suroriente Block contain further exploration potential and a 3D seismic survey will be acquired over this area to aid in the delineation of several features identified on legacy 2D seismic.
