The Fénix Block is located in a thrusted section of the basin which is structurally complex, and is on trend with some of the most significant discoveries in the area. Recent renewed exploration success in the basin by other operators has been largely due to the application of modern 3D seismic technology and enhanced structural modelling techniques which have enabled the accurate mapping of complex structures.
In December 2007 Amerisur Resources acquired, through its subsidiary companies, 100% control and benefit of the area. The 24,117 hectare area is located in the Middle Magdalena Basin of Colombia. The Middle Magdalena basin lies between the eastern and central ranges of the Andes mountains and has been a prolific producer of oil over many years with discovered reserves of approximately 1.9 billion barrels of oil and 2.5 TCF of gas in over 41 distinct fields. Isabel-1 continued on Long Term Test with production levels steady at approximately 20 BOPD having declined strongly from initial test flow rates. It has been concluded that the orientation of the well was not optimised with respect to where the oil bearing sands are located. The 2016 independent reserves report for the Platanillo field as at 31 December 2015 undertaken by Petrotech Engineering, using the standards set by the Oil and Gas Reserves Committee of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, certified 1P (Proven) gross field reserves were 15.2 million barrels of oil (\'MMBO\') (2014: 16.2 MMBO) after production of 1.62 MMBO during 2015 and 2P (Proven and Probable) gross field reserves were 23.7 MMBO (2014: 24.55 MMBO).
Amerisur Resources has commenced drilling operations on well Platanillo 8 on Pad 5 in the Platanillo field. Platanillo 8 is being drilled using the Serinco D-10 rig and is the first of a minimum of two infill wells to be drilled in 2016. (June, 2016)
