The Comperj project involves construction of a petrochemical-refinery complex. The refinery will process around 165,000 barrels of heavy crude per day from the Marlim field in the Campos basin. The petrochemicals unit will produce 1.3 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of ethane, 880,000 mtpa of propane, 600,000 mtpa of benzene, 700,000 mtpa of paraxylene and 157,000 mtpa of butadiene. The second generation unit is expected to produce 500,000 mtpa of styrene, 600,000 mtpa of ethylene glycol (EG), 800,000 mtpa of polyethylene (PE), 850,000 mtpa polypropylene (PP), 500,000 mtpa of purified terephthalic acid and 600,000 mtpa of polyethylene terephthalate (PET). A second 165,000b/d unit will be added after five years of the operations startup.
