Karoon Petroleo & Gas, has entered into an agreement to acquire a 20% interest in Block S-M-1352 which is part of the BM-S-41 Concession, which is subject to regulatory approval from the Agencia Nacional do Petroleo, the Brazilian national petroleum agency (ANP). Assessment of the results from the Maruja-1 and Maruja-2 wells, drilled late in 2010 and early 2011 respectively continued throughout the financial half-year. A forward plan for Maruja will be formulated with a decision on the development option expected in 2012.
The Maruja well is located about 280 kilometres off the coast of the State of Sao Paulo, in a water depth of 400m. The reservoirs were found at a depth of 2,200 metres. The well continues to be drilled with the aim of researching other deeper objectives, still in the post-salt section.
