The Sierra Nevada block is located in the Upper Magdalena basin in Northwest Colombia and covers 178,154 gross acres. It is the operator of the block with a 100% working interest. During 2011, it drilled the Brillante SE-2 development well. It also completed a 275 square kilometre 3D seismic survey, including approximately 222 square kilometres of data in the Sierra Nevada license and 53 square kilometres in the Magdalena license. It acquired its interest in the Magdalena Block through the Petrolifera acquisition in March 2011. As of March 1, 2017, Gran Tierra said it was awaiting to finalise its surrender of the Sierra Nevada block to Colombia’s Agencia Nacional de Hidrocarburos (ANH) to further its change in strategic focus.
