The Western Surat Gas Project is located 30 km north of Roma, Queensland, Australia. The project aim is to extract natural gas from coal seams over approximately 915 square kilometres of Senex permits. The permits involved are the ATP 795, ATP 767 and part of ATP 889 permit. Senex brought its first appraisal wells online at the end of 2016 as part of its pilot program. The company is progressing full field development planning in parallel with regulatory approvals, native title and land access activities.
The project is next to Santos-operated and Origin Energy-operated gas fields, the upstream gas fields feeding the GLNG and APLNG export facilities in Gladstone. The Santos Comet Ridge to Wallumbilla gas pipeline runs through Senex’s acreage. In 2015 Senex executed a binding 20-year gas sales agreement with GLNG to sell up to 50 TJ/day from the Project area to GLNG.
