Project Profile
Location: Exmouth Plateau, Northern Carnarvon Basin, Australia
Reserves: 3tcf
Depth: 3,848 ft (1173 m)
Exploration start-up: 01.07.2007
The Thebe Gas Field is situated within the northern central Exmouth Plateau in the Northern Carnarvon Basin. The Exmouth Plateau is a submerged continental block whose culmination lies at about 800m below sea level.
The Thebe Gas Field was discovered in 2007 by BHP Billiton. BHP Billiton drilled the Thebe-1 exploration well and subsequent evaluation confirmed a gas column of approximately 240 feet (73 metres) encountered in the Exmouth Plateau of the Carnarvon Basin. The field is estimated to hold 3tcf of gas in-place. Drilling of the Thebe-1 well began during the first week of July 2007 in block WA-346-P using the semi-submersible rig Atwood Eagle. The well is located approximately 186 miles (300 kilometres) off the North West coast of Western Australia in water depths of 3,848 feet (1173 metres).
