Situated on Permit T/18P in the Bass Basin offshore Australia, is the Trefoil gas and condensate field. Discovered in 2004, the Trefoil-1 well produced a significant amount of gas and condensate that flowed at a rate of 16.3 MMcf/d (46 MMcm/d) with associated condensate. This discovery proved large enough for the operator to commence appraisal drilling, which was embarked in October 2009 using the Kan Tan IV semisubmersible. On Nov. 30, 2009, the well was vertically drilled to a planned depth of 3,235 metres and reached the top objective in roughly 23 days. The drilling\'s primary objective was to encounter the gas-bearing sands that were reached in the fields\' discovery well within the Paleocene and Cretacous Eastern View Coal Measures.
