El Franig, Baguel, and Tarfa gas condensate fields are located in the Douz block of the Djerid Basin in the south central Tunisia. The fields came on stream in December 1993. They were initially operated by CMS Nomeco Int\'l Tunisia, which had a 50% joint venture with L’Entreprise Tunisienne d’Activités Pétrolières (ETAP), the state-owned industrial and commercial company. Producing oil and gas, they were found in 1981/82 by Amoco (now part of BP). The fields then contained 125 BCM of non-associated gas and some condensates and oil. Perenco acquired CMS Nomeco’s share in July 2002.
Perenco now owns and operates the El Franig, Baguel, and Tarfa gas condensate fields in Central Tunisia with 50% interest. The production comprises 25 mmscfd of gas 3 mmscfd of LPG equivalent and 1,100 bopd of condensates. Production from the El Franig and Baguel fields is transported to the central processing facility in Oum-Chiah via 120km of pipeline. Condensate is transferred to the La Skhira terminal for export, and gas is delivered to the Gabes plant for domestic consumption. In 2008, the construction of a new 72km, 10\" gas pipeline from the central processing facility to Gabes was announced combined with a full-scale upgrade of the processing facility and two new development wells, including the first successful hydraulic fracturing treatment in the Tunisian Ordovician Hamra Quartzite reservoir. Perenco Tunisia has performed two successful fracturing operations on the El Franig field in Tunisia, as part of the field\'s enhanced oil recovery programme. Schlumberger was awarded the contract for the management of the fracturing operations.
