Strike Oil Limited (Strike Oil) has been granted a new petroleum exploration license, PEL 96, over its highly prospective Southern Cooper project area in South Australia where it will be targeting coal seam gas (CSG). Strike Oil will have a 66.7% working interest in the five year license which covers ground of more than 2,707 km2 (square kilometres) in Australia’s premier onshore conventional oil and gas region. The permit is immediately south of the Moomba gas production facilities and is close to substantial gas infrastructure servicing South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales. The license is also the first granted under the Yandruwandha/Yawarrawarrka native title petroleum conjunctive indigenous land use agreement. Strike Energy is gearing up to spud a coalbed methane well at its Southern Cooper basin gas project in South Australia. The field operations had begun, with Energy Drilling Australia’s Rig 3 on location and getting set to spud the Le Chiffre-1 well upon final regulatory approvals. Le Chiffre-1 will be drilled in permit PEL 96. It will be drilled to a planned total depth of 2,021 metres and is expected to take about 21 days to complete. The drilling program will include coring and formation testing of the Toolachee, Roseneath-Epsilon-Murturee and Patchawarra plays.
