Project Profile
Location: From Katherine across the Northern Territory to the Gove Peninsular in North East Arnhem Land,
Length: 603 kilometres
Pacific Aluminium is progressing plans to convert the Gove alumina refinery in the Northern Territory from heavy fuel oil to natural gas. This will require the construction of a 603 kilometre natural gas pipeline from Katherine across the Northern Territory to the Gove Peninsular in North East Arnhem Land. The pipeline and refinery conversion will provide a number of long-term environmental benefits, including very significant reductions in emissions of sulphur dioxide and greenhouse gases.
Converting Gove alumina refinery to natural gas will double the size of the domestic gas market, which will help drive further investment in gas exploration and infrastructure, increase long-term gas supply, attract new industries and create jobs for Territorians. During 2013, the project will seek to obtain all necessary regulatory approvals, advance design and planning, finalise commercial arrangements for gas supply, and secure gas pipeline financing support with the Federal Government.
