Project Profile
Location: Western flank of the Bassett structure, offshore Browse basin, Australia
Reserves: 7.5 metres of gas pay
Water Depth: 368 metres
Santos’ Bassett West-1 deep-water exploration well in the offshore Browse basin is a gas discovery. Wireline logging and sampling had confirmed 7.5 metres of gas pay in Jurassic sandstones on the western flank of the Bassett structure. Further work is required to fully understand the overall resource picture for the Bassett feature. This includes greater clarity on the gas composition and the extent of this gas-bearing interval and additional potential reservoir segments across this large regional structural high. The well is in 368 metres of water and was drilled using the semi-submersible rig Jack Bates to a total depth of 5,239 metres in Block WA-408-P. Santos holds a 30% interest with operator Total owning 50% and Murphy Oil 20%. The same joint venture partners will next drill the Dufresne-1 well.
