Oilex has entered the unconventional play of the onshore Canning basin after being awarded a special prospecting authority (SPA) in Western Australia. SPA-0055 covers roughly 11,400 square kilometres in the unconventional basin in an aread Oilex believes could be prospective for both oil and liquids-rich gas. Oilex will carry out a six-month work programme from the third quarter of 2013 to assess the SPA’s prospectivity for hydrocarbons. Oilex has six months from the completion of the initial work programme to negotiate the forward work programme for the petroleum exploration permit. The area covered under the SPA had similar geological characteristics to its onshore acreage in India\'s Cambay basin.
