Project Profile

Location: Barrow Sub-basin, Northern Carnarvon Basin, offshore Western Australia
Area: 1,128 sq km
Water Depth: 60 m
Start-up Year: -

Finder was the preferred applicant for the combined gazettal areas L11-4/T11-2, offered in the 2011 Western Australian State acreage release round. On 16 March 2012 Finder agreed to enter into Native Title Act 1993 negotiations with respect to the gazettal areas and with the successful conclusion of the process the Petroleum Exploration Permit will be granted before Q4 2012. The Permit is located within the Barrow Sub-basin and the Peedamullah Shelf of the Northern Carnarvon Basin offshore Western Australia and is readily accessible from the North West Coastal Highway.

Finder has identified six key reservoir/play levels in the structural play within the Permit, including the proven Triassic Mungaroo Formation (as evidenced by the Longneck-1 well with good oil shows) and the Early Cretaceous Birdrong Sandstone/Mardie Greensand Member reservoir sealed by the overlying Muderong Shale, ie the “base regional seal play” (as evidenced by the Lightfoot-1 well with good oil shows). Regional work undertaken by Finder has also suggested a viable outboard Triassic source, charging deeper stratigraphic levels not previously considered exploration targets. Oil discoveries have been made inboard of the Permit, as evidenced by the Coaster and Ridley discoveries and the Tubridgi Gas Field is directly inboard and onshore of the Permit.
