Project Profile

Location: Block WA-1-R, Australia
Discovered: 1979
Water Depth: 950 metres
Recoverable Resources: 10 trillion cubic feet of dry gas.

Scarborough is an old field discovered in 1979 and has an estimated recoverable resource of 10 trillion cubic feet of dry gas. It has remained stranded for several reasons including its remoteness, its deep-water location, and the differing agendas of the two partners. The field lies in 950 metres of water in Block WA-1-R. ExxonMobil expects production of more than 1.2 billion cubic feet per day of gas, but the start-up projection has gone from post-2012 to post-2014 and now post-2015. Mustang Engineering, JP Kenny and Floatec have carried out Pre-FEED work on the upstream side of the project, with Mustang focusing on topsides issues, Floatec on hull dynamics and JP Kenny on the subsea infrastructure.

Woodside entered into binding sale and purchase agreements to acquire half of BHP Billiton’s Scarborough area assets in the Carnarvon Basin, located offshore Western Australia. The acquisition includes a 25% interest in WA-1-R and a 50% interest in WA-62-R, which together contain the Scarborough gas field. (July, 2016)
