Reserves: 13 mmboe (Yolla field)
Start-up Year: 2006
Water Depth: 80 m / 264 ft
The BassGas Project encompasses the Yolla gas field tied to the Yolla A offshore platform, located 91 miles (147 kilometres) from Kilcunda in the Bass Strait in the T/L1 and T/RL 1 licensed area. Origin Energy is the operator and holds a 42.5% interest; AWE holds a 46.25% interest; and Toyota Tsusho holds 11.25%. The Yolla-1 well was discovered in 1985, encountering gas in five separate reservoir intervals in the Eastern View Coal Measures. The well was tested and it flowed at a rate of 15 MMcf/d. In 1998, an appraisal well Yolla 2 was drilled, to test the lateral and vertical extent of the field, proving the field was commercially viable.
In June 2004, two development wells, Yolla 3 and 4, were drilled, encountering a previously undiscovered oil bearing intra-EVCM sand in the Yolla 4 well, while an upper gas and oil bearing section was completed on Yolla 3, confirming its productivity. Even though a field development plan was initiated in 2002 and construction commenced in 2003, the operator\'s goal while conducting development drilling was to collect detailed geological and engineering data to provide additional information on how to best develop the field. It is estimated that Yolla holds roughly 28 million barrels of condensate and LPG liquids. At a cost of US$750 million, Yolla\'s field development consists of two wells, Yolla 3 and 4 tied to an offshore, unmanned wellhead platform connected by a 14 inch-diameter pipeline to an onshore processing facility in Lang Lang. The field commenced production in June 2006 and has a life expectancy of 15 years. In July 2015, the 2P Reserves for the Yolla field were revised, by 5.5 mmboe, down to 13 mmboe (as at 30 June 2015).
