The Algiers refinery is located 10 kilometres South of Algiers in Algeria. It was built in 1964 and produces motor fuels and LPG for local market and naphtha and fuel oil for export. The refinery has a capacity of 60,000-bbl/d and processes crude from Hassi Messaoud. A rehabilitation program for the Northern refineries is underway aiming to increase capacity from 2.7 to 3.45 million tonnes per year (20,000 bbl/d). The upgrade is scheduled to complete in 2014 and will provide gasoline and other products to European specifications. The national oil company of Algeria, Sonatrach is the operator and owner of the refinery with 100% interest. The rehabilitation process of Algiers Refinery is part of a broader oil Refineries upgrading Program for the production of clean fuels in Algeria initiated by Sonatrach. Technip acts as EPC Contractor for the Algiers Refinery Rehabilitation and Adaptation project.
