Project Profile
Location: Cooper Basin, Australia
Start-up Year: 2017 (On stream - Kangaroo well)
After drilling in August 2009 Chiton-1 well (PEL 91) achieved first oil production at the end of January 2010. A further five-well exploration program in PEL 91 was approved and commenced in May 2011 following up on this initial success in the Western Flank Oil Fairway. The PEL 91 Joint Venture approved the 434 sq km Aquillus 3D seismic survey which will address further exploration prospectivity in the block. The new survey will cover over 20 Namur sandstone oil prospects previously identified on 2D seismic as well as potential prospective Birkhead Formation plays immediately south of the Wirraway, Growler and Snatcher oil discoveries.
Snellings-1 oil exploration well is located 1500 metres north of the Hanson Oil Discovery and 1900 metres south of the Chiton Oil Field. PEL 92 lies in the north of South Australia on the western margin of the Cooper Basin. PEL 92 contains a full section of Cretaceous and Jurassic sediments, with Permian sediments subcropping in the eastern part of the block. The Permian subcrop edge is considered to form the migration pathway for oil into the Jurassic reservoirs that form the main exploration targets within the block.
