Project Profile

Value: US$250 million
Location: 100 kilometres north of Bayu-Undan in the joint petroleum development area the offshore area shared by Timor Leste and Australia
Start-up Year: 2012

The project will see the fields being developed via a standalone FPSO or as a subsea developments tied back to the Northern Endeavour FPSO at the Laminaria/Corallina project. The combined reserves at the two fields are about 25.4 million barrels of oil. The Kuda-Tasi and Jahal fields are about 100 kilometres north of Bayu-Undan in the joint petroleum development area the offshore area shared by Timor Leste and Australia.

In April 2010 Eni (Australia) began the development of the Kitan oil field after the discovery of oil in 2008. Production started in October 2011. The production of the Kitan field is achieved through the completion of wells located in deep waters connected to an FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) unit, which reached a peak production of approximately 45,000 barrels of oil per day in 2012.

Eni was awarded a new exploration permit over an area of 662 square kilometres adjacent to the offshore Kitan field in the Timor Sea in April 2013. The Production Sharing Contract foresees a commitment by Eni to drill two exploration wells during the first two years and the option for two more. The area is located within the Joint Petroleum Development Area (JPDA), jointly managed by Australia and Timor-Leste, and has an average water depth of 350 metres.
