Project Profile

Value: $350 Million
Startup Year: 2014
Water Depth: 91m

Evans Shoal is located at Block NT/P48 in the Bonaparte basin in an area with water depths ranging from less than three feet to more than 300 feet. The field has had three wells drilled on it. The field has lain dormant because of the difficulty of developing the sour gas, and due to joint venture issues. The field contains 8 trillion cubic feet of gas but with a carbon dioxide content of 28%. Magellan Petroleum intends to use the gas as feedstock for a greenfield methanol plant, based in Middle Arm, Darwin.

The offshore facilities to tap the field will be a steel-jacket processing platform in shallow water, and a 335-km subsea pipeline.
