Pelican Lake conventional heavy oil project is located about 300 km north of Edmonton, in the Greater Pelican Region. Heavy oil production started in 1997 from a series of horizontal wells. Heavy oil recovery is achieved through polymer flooding. The process involves injecting water and small concentrations of polymers to help sweep oil towards a producing well.
