The Birley/Umbach Area is located northeast British Columbia. The projects first horizontal Montney well, drilled at a-60-K/94-H-3 was brought on production April 10, 2014 and averaged a restricted 4.7 MMcfed of gas. In 2015 the operator confirmed the scale of the Montney resource across the Birley/Umbach area and set a credit plan to ensure drilling was not going to be abandoned in the current harsh market environment. In November 2016 a three-well drilling programme was announced and in January 2017 this three-well drilling programme was completed, with Chinook preparing for more drilling at the acreage.
Facility Expansion
The Birley/Umbach expansion cost around US$25 million and has increased the facility\'s capacity by 25 mmcf/d, resulting in a total throughput capacity of 29 mmcf/d. In conjunction with the commissioning of the Birley/Umbach facility expansion the company was able to commence production from an additional three wells in the Birley/Umbach Area, bringing the total wells on production in this area to five wells.
