Project Profile
Location: Calcasieu River, south of Lake Charles, Louisiana
Value: US$30 billion
Storage capacity: 250,000 cubic metres
Production capacity: 27.6 million tpy of LNG (planned 20 liquefaction trains)
Construction start-up: 2018
Production start-up: early 2023
The Driftwood LNG facility will have a 26 million tonnes per year liquefaction capacity from five liquefaction trains and will feature three full-containment LNG storage tanks of approximately 250,000 cbm, three berths and loading facilities for LNG ships ranging from 125,000 cbm up to 216,000 cbm.
Natural gas will be delivered to the LNG facility from existing interstate pipeline systems via a proposed new 96- mile-long pipeline that includes up to 15-metre stations and associated tie-ins at up to 13 sites and two compressor stations.
The proposed US$2.2 billion Driftwood pipeline would move up to 4 bcf (113.27 mcm) per day of gas across southwest Louisiana. Another US$3.7 billion pipeline is planned to bring up to 2 bcf (56.63 mcm) per day of gas from the Permian Basin.
Driftwood LNG is expecting to receive the authorization for the siting, construction and operation of the project no later than March 2018. The construction is scheduled to begin by the second quarter of 2018 with an estimated schedule of seven years for the entire project. First production train is expected to be operational four years after the construction start.
